the rs filmfest
Short Film Festival
We felt there was another opportunity for filmmakers and their teams to become noticed and felt sure that we could provide something special. Something which is classy, high quality and that people would be proud to be a part of. The RS FilmFest launched end of December 2021 and was originally a bi-monthly festival with the first winners being announced and showcased January 2022. The festival has gone from strength to strength with many learnings along the way. The event is also a wonderful platform for our Marketing Clients, who are invited to attend and be a part of it, with advertising opportunities both within the printed programme, on the big screens and being able to go round and chat to a sell out crowd in person. It has developed into an annual, prestigious and much talked about IMDb qualifying and hopefully soon to be BAFTA qualifying festival with the support of many.
what happens?
When filmmakers enter, their films are previewed, with a certain criteria needing to be met before they become an official selection and are awarded a laurel. The RS FilmFest does not automatically accept every film – this would only devalue the festival and the standard we are aiming for.
Films are then shortlisted – at which point entrants are announced with a finalist laurel. Their film posters and information are presented on social media channels as well as at the event both in print and on the big screen. We have a panel of renowned and well-respected judges to assist with the winning selection process.
Winning films are then screened at the event, with trophies and certificates presented.
NEW FOR 2024
Brought to you in collaboration with the Creative Queens Group, founded by Jane Sanger of Lumino Films, The RS FilmFest is excited to bring a new award to the table, to recognise Women over 40 in Short Films. Whether they are playing a leading role, a writer, Producer, Director or DOP – we invite you to submit your work!
Creative Queens support all women in the arts but in particular Women over 40 who often get less roles, and can be less visible in the work place for all roles in film, theatre, arts.
This group will try to bring roles as cast and crew to your attention and create more opportunities.
We often see that those classed as emerging directors, actors, artists, producers are generally considered 18-30. Women put their careers on hold often to bring up a family and can reemerge at any age but particularly 50 plus when their family have grown.
We want to work together with this group to change perceptions. Older women do not just feature as “mum”, “granny” “witch” or “madam” but need nuanced roles where they are the love interest, the boss, the explorer, the inventor, the detective. Of course, we need men too but we need them and us to also write roles and cast mature women more often.
Older women have a wealth of knowledge and experience that could be put to use to support other mature women and younger women in the arts. They need to tell their stories and we want to hear, watch and see them. We are proud to be supporting this initiative and can’t wait to see what difference it makes!
